Chicken Licken: a TaleJam A co-production with Durham Gala Touring Spring 2019 Supported by Arts Council England
Chicken Licken: a Tale Jam
I am so excited to be working with a brilliant team to create Chicken Licken: a Tale Jam and very lucky to be co-producing this with Gala Theatre Durham, Durham County Council and supported by Arts Council England.
Chicken Licken: a TaleJam is a theatrical Story Gig for family audiences touring in Spring 2019. The merry musical storytelling band are infiltrated by someone who seems to think that she is the lead singer. Don’t worry, she’s not, but she can tell a story. Together they tell of the plight of Chicken Licken, who takes an acorn landing on her head as evidence that the sky is falling in and whips up such mass hysteria in the farmyard that a whole gang of fearful fowls go off to tell the king of the impending doom. At a time when it feels as though the sky might actually be falling in, fables and folktales are brilliant ways to explore the complicated times of today. When truth is hard to come by in our own twittering farmyard, We ask where is the truth? And who is telling it? And what does Foxy Loxy have to do with it all?
The development of the piece began with a successful bid to the NEADN Residency Programme which took place at The Witham in Barnard Castle in February 2018. It is such a brilliant opportunity and I encourage any artist to do it. More about it here.
